What is Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy?
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) is a safe, gentle and powerful light-touch physical therapy that unwinds the body's fascial system, balances the body's natural rhythms, eases pain and settles the nervous system.
It allows for the safe and gentle resolution of stresses and trauma held in the body, mind and surrounding field. It is an equally effective therapy for both physical and emotional conditions.
Is the therapy painful?
No. It requires the natural unwinding of the body to take place. This process is gentle and gradual and should not be at all painful.
What is Pilates?
Pilates is a form of mind-body exercise that concentrates on strengthening the body with an emphasis on core strength. It helps to improve general fitness and overall well-being. It is a low-impact form of exercise and differs from yoga in that it involves adopting a position and then challenging your core by moving your arms or legs (as opposed to adopting a position and then holding it).
What are the benefits of using Pilates?
It can relieve tension in your shoulders, back and legs, it boosts your body's natural ability to burn fat, it's a great way to cross-train and prevent injury and it promotes mindfulness and body awareness.
What is Matwork Pilates?
Matwork Pilates is a strengthening and lengthening form of exercise, performed on a mat.
It works all areas of the body and your body weight provides resistance against gravity to make the class challenging. Exercises can be modified for any age, body or fitness level. Apparatus such as Swiss-balls, resistance bands and magic circles can be added to matwork exercises to make classes varied and challenging.
What is Reformer Pilates?
Reformer Pilates involves full-body Pilates exercises using a Reformer machine.
It is generally a more intense and dynamic form of Pilates than mat-based Pilates as it uses a graded spring system to add resistance to Pilates exercises.
It is fantastic for rehabilitation and those with injuries as it can be performed in non-weight-bearing positions. It provides a larger repertoire of exercises than matwork Pilates and allows the client to work the muscles through a larger range of motion, which is ideal for building muscle as well as increasing stability through the joints.
